Alexander Knox

Distinguished character actor of stage and screen, born in Strathroy, Ontario, Canada. After his 1929 stage debut in Boston, he went to England, where he appeared on the London stage and in a couple of films. He returned to America at the outbreak of WW II and in the early 1940s began a durable and prominent career as a character actor in Hollywood films. In the following three decades he played character leads and solid supporting parts in numerous screen productions, memorably in the title role of WILSON (1944). He collaborated on several screenplays and authored a number of plays, novels and mysteries. He and his wife, former actress Doris Nolan, retired to live in England.
