Born in Ulster County, NY. Composer of film scores and stock music who entered American film with THE WILD PARTY at Paramount in 1929. During his career at Paramount and Columbia, he composed music for almost 250 films, usually uncredited. He started receiving regular screen credit in the late 1930s, and some of his notable scores include UNION PACIFIC, MILLION DOLLAR LEGS, THE FLYING DEUCES and GERONIMO (all 1939), CHEROKEE STRIP (1940), several of the "Blondie" films, and dozens of "B" westerns.
