William A. Lyon
(1903 - 1974)

Born in Texas, USA. Film editor who began his long career at Colubmia with the Three Stooges short, RESTLESS KNIGHTS (1935). By 1937, he had moved to editing 'B' features, mostly westerns, at the studio. In the mid-1940s, though, he was cutting some major releases: THE JOLSON STORY (1946), JOLSON SINGS AGAIN (1949), NO SAD SONGS FOR ME (1950), DEATH OF A SALESMAN (1951), THE MEMBER OF THE WEDDING (1952), FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953), THE CAINE MUTINY (1954), PICNIC (1955), COWBOY (1958), A RAISIN IN THE SUN (1961), GIDGET GOES TO ROME (1963), THE YOUNG LOVERS (1964), MAJOR DUNDEE (1965), LORD LOVE A DUCK (1966), BAREFOOT IN THE PARK (1967), THE SECRET OF SANTA VITTORIA (1969), R.P.M. (1970), and his last film, BLESS THE BEASTS & CHILDREN (1971).
