Born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary (now Austria). Novelist and screenwriter who entered Austrian film with DER MILLIONENONKEL at Sascha-Verleih in 1913. By 1918, he was directing his scripts as well. It wasn't until the early 1930s that his stories were produced for the US market: A SONG FOR YOU (1934), SPRING PARADE (1940), A SONG TO REMEMBER (1945), AT HEIDELBERG (1959), and FOREVER MY LOVE (1962). Perhaps his most successful film was SISSI (1955), which starred Romy Schneider as the Austrian princess and spawned two sequels: SISSI - DIE JUNGE KAISERIN (1956) and SISSI - SCHICKSALSJAHRE EINER KAISERIN (1957).

His brother, Hubert Marischka (1882 - 1959), was also a film director and writer.
