Born in Kiev, Russia [now Ukraine]. Composer who entered the French film industry (under the name of Michel Lévine) with the score for LA FEMME D'UNE NUIT at Les Établissements Braunberger-Richebé in 1930. Michelet worked mainly on French films until the outbreak of World War II; however, he did score some Anglo-French productions, most notably Abel Gance's END OF THE WORLD (aka PARIS AFTER DARK, 1934). Coming to the US in the early 1940s, his first Hollywood credit is UA's Shirley Temple vehicle, MISS ANNIE ROONEY (1942), although he's not credited in the film. Other Hollywood credits include CRIME DOCTOR'S STRANGEST CASE (1943), A VOICE IN THE WIND and THE HAIRY APE (both 1944), THE DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID and THE CHASE (both 1946), LURED (1947), SIREN OF ATLANTIS, IMPACT and OUTPOST IN MOROCCO (all 1949), THE MAN ON THE EIFFEL TOWER, ONCE A THIEF and DOUBLE DEAL (all 1950), TARZAN'S PERIL and M (both 1951), and FORT ALGIERS (1953). Michelet did score the French film VINGT-QUATRE HEURES DE PERM' (1945), and he returned to Europe in 1955, where he worked for the rest of his career. Credits during this period include a dozen French productions and co-productions that were distributed internationally.
