Born in Lautenberg, Germany. Novelist, playwright and occasional story writer whose play Der Patriot served as the basis for the 1928 American film THE PATRIOT and the 1938 French film LE PATRIOTE. His novel La Tragédie impériale was adapted for the 1939 Marcel L'Herbier release in France. (It was released in the US as RASPUTIN.) As a screenwriter, Neumann contributed to the story for NONE SHALL ESCAPE (1944), THE RETURN OF MONTE CRISTO (1946), and MATTO REGIERT (1947). His story "The Pentacle" was adapted for 1945's CONFLICT.
