Process photography expert, specializing in matte painting and set design, at MGM for over 200 films over a 22-year period, including such classic films as DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE (1941), TORTILLA FLAT (1942), GASLIGHT (1944), EASTER PARADE (1948), ON THE TOWN (1949), ANNIE GET YOUR GUN (1950), AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951) and SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (1952). He also acted as the Director of Set Painting for THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939). Often teamed with A. Arnold Gillespie. Newcombe was also an accomplished painter and lithographer, whose work is exhibited and sold nationwide.
