Born in Prescott, AZ. Art director in American films for over 30 years. His first credit is for art direction for THE VICTORIA CROSS (1916) at Jesse Lasky. He was art director for over 20 films during the silent era, and his first talkie was THE PUBLIC ENEMY (1931) at Warner Bros. Subsequent credits include TOO BUSY TO WORK (1932), THE POWER AND THE GLORY (1933), THE WHITE PARADE (1934), THE GAY DECEPTION (1935), CHINA CLIPPER and GOLD DIGGERS OF 1937 (both 1936), THAT CERTAIN WOMAN (1937), BROTHER RAT (1938), DEVIL'S ISLAND and THE ROARING TWENTIES (both 1939), IT ALL CAME TRUE and BROTHER ORCHID (both 1940), BLUES IN THE NIGHT (1941), GEORGE WASHINGTON SLEPT HERE (1942), PRINCESS O'ROURKE (1943), ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (1944), CLOAK AND DAGGER (1946), and his last film, DEEP VALLEY (1947).
