Born in New York City. Composer and songwriter in American films from 1927 [SEVENTH HEAVEN - "Diane" (theme song)]. He composed the scores of a dozen films from 1933 to 1944, usually uncredited. They include LUXURY LINER, (1933), BAD BOY (1935), SING, BABY, SING and ONE IN MILLION (both 1936), ISLAND IN THE SKY (1938), SOUTH OF PAGO PAGO (1940), and SEVEN DAYS ASHORE (1944).

In addition to "Diane", some his notable songs include "My Yiddishe Momme", "Reap the Wild Wind", "Sioux City Sue", "At the Codfish Ball", "Two Cigarettes in the Dark" and "Charmaine."
