Born Fredric Efrem Rich in Warsaw, Poland. Composer, bandleader and musical director who first appeared in American films as Freddie Rich in RAMBLING 'ROUND RADIO ROW #5 (Vitaphone, 1933). He and his band were the subjects of the 1938 Vitaphone short FREDDIE RICH AND HIS ORCHESTRA. He composed scores for several Hollywood films: I LIVE ON DANGER (also musical director), WILDCAT and WRECKING CREW (all 1942), STAGE DOOR CANTEEN, ALASKA HIGHWAY, SUBMARINE ALERT and JACK LONDON (also musical director) (all 1943), and A WALK IN THE SUN (1945). He also wrote the music for a few songs used in films: "China Boy", "Mardi Gras" and "Time Will Tell."
