Born in Seattle, WA. Composer and songwriter who entered American film as composer for HELL-BENT FOR ELECTION (1944). Other notable composing credits include THE NEGRO SOLDIER (also 1944), THE ROOSEVELT STORY (1947), and MUSCLE BEACH and MAN FROM TEXAS (both 1948). He wrote music for the title song for the Frank Sinatra tolerance short subject THE HOUSE I LIVE IN (1945). Never shy of expressing his progressive political views, Robinson was a victim of the Hollywood Black List from 1948 until his return to films in 1968 as music coordinator for UP TIGHT! He composed the song "I Dreamed I Saw Joe Hill Last Night" for Bo Widerberg's 1971 Sweden/US feature JOE HILL. His final composing efforts were for made-for-TV movies: "Maybe I'll Come Home in the Spring" (1971), "The Great Man's Whiskers" (1972), and "Huckleberry Finn" (1975).
