Fred Rose
(1897 - 1954)

Born Knowles Fred Rose in Evansville, IN. Songwriter and music publishing executive whose songs were featured in films from 1937. A master of the country genre, he teamed up with Gene Autry in 1939 for ROVIN' TUMBLEWEEDS, as well as RIDIN' ON A RAINBOW and SIERRA SUE (both 1941). Some of Rose's notable songs include "Along the Rio Grande", "Be Honest With Me", "Twiddle O'Twill", "Deed I Do", "Kaw-Liga", "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and "I'm So Lonely I Could Cry."

In 1942, with Roy Acuff, Rose created Acuff-Rose Publications, the first major country music publishing house in Nashville. A charter member, Rose was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961.
