William Saroyan
(1908 - 1981)
Biography from Katz's Film Encyclopedia

This noted author's one major contribution to the screen was the original story for MGM's sentimental drama of wartime America, THE HUMAN COMEDY (1943), for which he won an Academy Award. He later adapted the script material to a novel, which was also published in 1943. THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE (1948), based on his 1939 Broadway production of the same name, is the only film adapted from any of his many plays, novels, and stories, which usually are loose in structure, form and plot. In 1943, he directed a documentary film, THE GOOD JOB.
