Born in Kansas, USA. Set decorator and art director in Hollywood from the late 1920s to the early 1960s. Notable set decorating credits, alone or in collaboration, include REAP THE WILD WIND and I MARRIED A WITCH (both 1942), THE STORY OF DR. WASSELL (1944), THE UNSEEN and GUEST WIFE (both 1945), ROAD TO UTOPIA (1946), MAGIC TOWN (1947), BORROWED TROUBLE (1948), SIREN OF ATLANTIS (1949), DESTINATION MOON (1950), DRUMS IN THE DEEP SOUTH (1951), CHICAGO CALLING (1952), CODE TWO and JENNIFER (both 1953), DOMINO KID (1957), and his last film, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? (1962) Sawley was set decorator for episodes of "The Rough Riders" and "Bat Masterson" TV series.
