Henry V (1944)
Born in Moscow, Russia; educated at Oxford. A former architect and mining engineer, he entered British films in the late 30s and under the tutelage of Lazare Meerson developed into one of England's finest set designers. His credits, alone or in collaboration, include FRENCH WITHOUT TEARS (1940), QUIET WEDDING (1941), SECRET MISSION (1942), HENRY V (1944), ADAM AND EVELYNE (1949), THE BLACK ROSE (1950), THE CRIMSON PIRATE and MOULIN ROUGE (both 1952), THE CAPTAIN'S PARADISE (1953), THE MAN WHO LOVED REDHEADS (1955), INTERPOL (1957), CHASE A CROOKED SHADOW and THE DOCTOR'S DILEMMA (both 1958), and his last film, LIBEL (1959).
