Born Robert Cedric Sherriff in Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey, England. Playwright and screenwriter whose play Journey's End was adapted to the screen in 1930. Sherriff contributed to several prestigious Universal and MGM British productions, including THE OLD DARK HOUSE (1932), THE INVISIBLE MAN (1933), BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935), DRACULA'S DAUGHTER (1936), THE FOUR FEATHERS and GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS (both 1939), THAT HAMILTON WOMAN (1941), THIS ABOVE ALL and STAND BY FOR ACTION (both 1942), FOREVER AND A DAY (1943), ODD MAN OUT (1947), QUARTET (1948), TRIO (1950), NO HIGHWAY (1951), HOME AT SEVEN (1952, play), and THE DAM BUSTERS and STORM OVER THE NILE (both 1955).
