Born in Minneapolis, MN. After radio experience, he orchestrated numerous MGM musicals from the late 1930s. He often worked in collaboration with some of the screen's most noted composer/arrangers. Some of his notable unnominated composing credits, sometimes uncredited, include GO WEST YOUNG MAN (1936), MIDNIGHT MADONNA (1937), LUXURY LINER (1948), IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME (1949), THE OPPOSITE SEX (1956), WHERE THE BOYS ARE (1960), THE COURTSHIP OF EDDIE'S FATHER (1963), GIRL HAPPY (1965), and SPINOUT (1966).
