Born in San Francisco, CA. Film editor who entered American film in 1916 at Thomas Ince with CIVILIZATION. From 1920 to 1928, he cut a dozen silent films in addition to writing SKIN DEEP (1922) and EYES OF THE FOREST (1923).
Switiching to talkies in 1928, Stone worked initally at First National (CHILDREN OF THE RITZ, PRISONERS, TWIN BEDS, SALLY, BRIDE OF THE REGIMENT, SUNNY), but then moved to Paramount in 1931, where he remained for the rest of his career. Notable editing assignments at that studio, alone or in collaboration, include DUCK SOUP (1933, uncredited), BELLE OF THE NINETIES (1934), MAKE WAY FOR TOMORROW (1937), MAN ABOUT TOWN (1939), BUCK BENNY RIDES AGAIN (1940), SKYLARK and LOUISIANA PURCHASE (both 1941), WAKE ISLAND (1942), GOING MY WAY (1944), BLUE SKIES (1946), VARIETY GIRL (1947), THE BIG CLOCK (1948), MY FRIEND IRMA and CHICAGO DEADLINE (both 1949), and his last film, APPOINTMENT WITH DANGER (1951).
