Born in Oklahoma, USA. Process cinematographer who entered American film uncredited with THE PHANTOM EMPIRE and THE FIGHTING MARINES serials produced by Mascot and released by Republic in 1935. Some of the other pictures for which he supplied special effects photography include many "B" westerns at Republic, as well as DICK TRACY (1937), THE QUIET MAN (1952) and COOGAN'S BLUFF (1968). In 1953, Thackery began to work in television as well, and his credits in that medium include episodes of "Commando Cody: Sky Marshal of the Universe", "Stories of the Century", "The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu", "Overland Trail", "Thriller", "Tales of Wells Fargo", "McHale's Navy", "Wagon Train", "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour", "Night Gallery", "Ironside" and "Emergency," as well as many made-for-TV movies.
