Henry Travers
(1874 - 1965)
Biography from Katz's Film Encyclopedia

Born Travers Heagerty in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England. A veteran of the British stage, he played character parts in Broadway plays from the early 1920s and in Hollywood films from the early 1930s. Typically cast as a dignified and amiable senior citizen, he appeared in an unusually high number of top-quality productions: DARK VICTORY, STANLEY AND LIVINGSTONE and THE RAINS CAME (1939); EDISON THE MAN (1940); HIGH SIERRA (1941); MRS. MINIVER, BALL OF FIRE and RANDOM HARVEST (1942); SHADOW OF A DOUBT and MADAME CURIE (1943); and, of course, as Clarence Oddbody, Angel-Second-Class, in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946).
