Long-time Hollywood art director who began in the silent era at the Samuel Zierler Photoplay Corp. with King Vidor's THE WOMAN OF BRONZE (1923). He worked in various films at Universal, Columbia and Metro until the advent of the sound era, when he settled at Fox, where he remained until the mid-1950s designing most of their big musical productions. Some of his art director credits during this period include MOULIN ROUGE (1934), ROSE-MARIE (1936), LILLIAN RUSSELL, DOWN ARGENTINE WAY, THE MARK OF ZORRO and TIN PAN ALLEY (all 1940), BLOOD AND SAND, DRESSED TO KILL and SWAMP WATER (all 1941), MY GAL SAL, THIS ABOVE ALL and ORCHESTRA WIVES (all 1942), CONEY ISLAND and STORMY WEATHER (both 1943), IRISH EYES ARE SMILING (1944), MOTHER WORE TIGHTS (1947), THE SNAKE PIT and UNFAITHFULLY YOURS (both 1948), COME TO THE STABLE (1949), WABASH AVENUE and MY BLUE HEAVEN (both 1950), WITH A SONG IN MY HEART and STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER (both 1952), GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (1953) and OKLAHOMA! (1955). He was art director for the Samuel Goldwyn Co.'s GUYS AND DOLLS (1955) and PORGY AND BESS (1959), and then began freelancing with FLOWER DRUM SONG (U-I, 1961), THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES (Warners, 1962), DEAR HEART (Warners, 1964). He finished out his career at Columbia with THE SILENCERS and MURDERERS' ROW (both 1966), THE AMBUSHERS (1967) and THE WRECKING CREW (1968). As production designer, Wright's credits include THE GANG'S ALL HERE (1943), THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM (1955) and WALK DON'T RUN (1966).
