Buddy Adler

Born E. Maurice Adler in New York City. Production chief at 20th Century-Fox from 1956 until his death, Adler began his career writing shorts for MGM, became a producer for Columbia in 1947, and sired an Oscar-winning best picture in 1953 with FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. Although most of the films he produced were solid commercial hits such as LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING (1955), ANASTASIA (1956) and SOUTH PACIFIC (1958), Adler was also responsible for the hard-hitting drug melodrama, A HATFUL OF RAIN (1957). Married to leading lady Anita Louise (a.k.a. Anita Fremault) until his death. His tombstone reads "From Here to Eternity."
