Hollywood art director and production designer in the 1950s, 60s and 70s who entered American film with A STAR IS BORN (1954). Other non-nominated credits, alone or in collaboration, include BACK FROM ETERNITY and BHOWANI JUNCTION (bothe 1956), MERRY ANDREW (1958), HELLER IN PINK TIGHTS and LET'S MAKE LOVE (both 1960), THE CHAPMAN REPORT (also adaptation) and SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVE (also assoc. producer) (both 1962), THE CHEYENNE SOCIAL CLUB (1970) and AT LONG LAST LOVE (1975). Allen was an uncredited production designer for MY FAIR LADY (1964).
