An American in Paris (1951)
Entered American film as an art director for BLONDE FEVER (1944) at MGM. For many years, one of Hollywood's top production designers at the studio, often working with director Vincente Minnelli. He shared Academy Awards for AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951) and GIGI (1958) and was nominated for six other Oscars®. Some of his notable non-nominated credits (alone or in collaboration) include THE BAND WAGON (1953), KISMET (1955), DESIGNING WOMAN (1957), BELLS ARE RINGING and WHERE THE BOYS ARE (both 1960), BILLY ROSE'S JUMBO (1962), THE STRAWBERRY STATEMENT and BREWSTER McCLOUD (both 1970) and THE PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE and ROOSTER COGBURN (both 1975).
