George K. Arthur
(1899 - 1985)
Biography from Katz's Film Encyclopedia

Born in Littlehampton, Sussex, England. Entered films via the Shakespearean stage and became popular in England after appearing in the film KIPPS (1921). He came to Hollywood in 1922 and stayed to enjoy a successful career as a light leading man and supporting player. In a marked departure from his usual sunny roles, he played the sad and dreamy hero of Josef von Sternberg's THE SALVATION HUNTERS in 1925. In 1927 he was teamed with Karl Dane in ROOKIES, the first of a series of highly popular comedies in which the two actors co-starred through 1929. He retired in 1935 to go into business and, among other ventures, produced and distributed films.
