The Gunfighter (1950)
Born in Las Cruces, NM. Specialized in comedy westerns and also turned out several thrillers. Some of his notable (non-nominated) credits include HIGHER AND HIGHER (1943, add'l dialogue), NIGHT AND DAY (1946), LARCENY (1947), THE MOB (1951), SHE COULDN'T SAY NO (1954), THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE (1956), ALIAS JESSE JAMES and -30- (both 1959), THE LAST TIME I SAW ARCHIE (1961), ADVANCE TO THE REAR (1964) and WAY... WAY OUT (1966). Bowers produced the last film that he wrote, the superior western parody SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF! (1969).
