The Snake Pit (1948)

American poet, songwriter, writer and editor with Amish ancestry on his mother's side. He wrote the text to accompany George Tice's photographs for Fields of Peace: A Pennsylvania German Album. Other books include Local Lives (1975), a book of poems about the Pennsylvania Dutch; Savage Sleep; Peace March: Nagasaki to Hiroshima; and The Outward Room.
