Henry Bumstead
(1915 - 2006)

Born in Ontario, CA. Veteran production designer whose credits range from the classic Hitchcock thrillers THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1956) and VERTIGO (1958) to Clint Eastwood's HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER (1973) and George Roy Hill's THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP (1982). Bumstead won Oscars® for his work on TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962) and THE STING (1973). From 1979, he worked as production designer on such films as A LITTLE ROMANCE and CONCORDE: AIRPORT '79 (both 1979), SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT II (1980), THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL (1984), PSYCHO III (1986), GHOST DAD (1990) and CAPE FEAR (1991). In 1992, he became Clint Eastwood's production designer of choice and worked on UNFORGIVEN (1992), A PERFECT WORLD (1993), THE STARS FELL ON HENRIETTA (1995), ABSOLUTE POWER and MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL (both 1997), TRUE CRIME (1999), SPACE COWBOYS (2000), BLOOD WORK (2002) and MYSTIC RIVER (2003).
