Born in Connecticut, USA. Veteran Hollywood sound recordist and sound director who entered British film with AROUND THE TOWN (1938) at British Lion Film Corp. After WW II, he resumed his career in the US with LARCENY (1947) at Universal -- where he stayed for the next 13 years. With almost 280 credits at Universal to his name, some of Carey's more notable (non-nominated) films include A DOUBLE LIFE (1947), THE NAKED CITY and ALL MY SONS (both 1948), several of Universal's Abbott & Costello and Ma & Pa Kettle films, WINCHESTER '73 and HARVEY (both 1950), IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE (1953), CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION (both 1954), THIS ISLAND EARTH and THE PRIVATE WAR OF MAJOR BENSON (both 1955), THE BENNY GOODMAN STORY and WRITTEN ON THE WIND (both 1956), THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, TAMMY AND THE BACHELOR and MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES (all 1957), TOUCH OF EVIL (1958), IMITATION OF LIFE, THIS EARTH IS MINE and PILLOW TALK (all 1959). Carey's last film was THE LEECH WOMAN (1960).
