British screenwriter and playwright whose play I Killed the Count was adapted to the screen in 1939. He entered British film that same year with JUST LIKE A WOMAN. His only other film before WW II was OVER THE MOON (1940). After the war, some of his notable screen credits (alone or in collaboration) include Edward Dmytryk's OBSESSION (1949 screenplay from his novel A Man About a Dog), HELL BELOW ZERO (1954) directed by Mark Robson, Hitchcock's VERTIGO (1958), THE GAZEBO (1959, play & story with his wife Myra) and THE STATUE (1971), which starred David Niven.
Beginning in 1957, Coppel wrote for television, contributing episodes for "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" and "Kraft Suspense Theatre".
