Tom Daly

Born in Toronto, ON, Canada; educated at the University of Toronto. Joined the National Film Board of Canada as a production assistant in 1940 in order to contribute to Canada's war effort. Widely acknowledged as the most important figure ever to work in the English-language branch of the NFB, Daly was a brilliant editor and producer, capable of inspiring his colleagues' best work. Producer of over 300 short films, both animated and live action, for the NFB, beginning in 1943 with THE GATES OF ITALY (also editor). His last film was MUSICAL MAGIC: GILBERT AND SULLIVAN IN STRATFORD (1984).
