Born in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England; educated at Chelsea Polytechnic and the Slade School of Art. Costume designer who entered British film with Harold Huth's NIGHT BEAT (1948). Other notable (non-nominated) film credits include THE RELUCTANT WIDOW (1951), THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (1952), SVENGALI (1954), THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN (1957), A TALE OF TWO CITIES (1958), THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE (1961), THE L-SHAPED ROOM (1962), UNCLE VANYA (1963), OF HUMAN BONDAGE (1964), LIFE AT THE TOP (1965), MODESTY BLAISE (1966), THE ACCIDENT (1967), ONLY WHEN I LARF (1968) and her last film, Patrick Garland's A DOLL'S HOUSE (1973), which starred Claire Bloom, Anthony Hopkins, Ralph Richardson, Denholm Elliott, Edith Evans and Anna Massey. Dawson also designed costumes for British theatre and television.
