John DeCuir
(1918 - 1991)

Born in San Francisco, CA. Veteran, multi-award-winning designer who entered American film as an art director for WHITE TIE AND TAILS (1946) at Universal-International. Other notable (non-nominated) credits (alone or in collaboration) include as art director THE NAKED CITY and CASBAH (both 1948), THE LIFE OF RILEY (1949), I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE and THE MODEL AND THE MARRIAGE BROKER (both 1951), CALL ME MADAM (1952), THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN and THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS (both 1954), SOUTH PACIFIC (1958), THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN (1975) and LOVE AND BULLETS (1979). As production designer, additional credits include THE HONEY POT and DOCTOR FAUSTUS (both 1967), CHARLY (1968), ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER and THE GREAT WHITE HOPE (both 1970), JACQUELINE SUSANN'S ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH (1975), THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT (1977), RAISE THE TITANIC (1980), DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID (1982) and his last film, GHOST BUSTERS (1984).

DeCuir consulted with Disney on the design of the main theatre at Epcot Center's "Space" pavillion. Son, John DeCuir Jr., (b. 1941) is also an art director.
