Born in Lima, Ohio. Director, assistant director, production manager and producer who entered American film with DADDY'S GONE A-HUNTING (1925), assisting director Frank Borzage at Metro-Goldwyn. He directed three Westerns at Fox (THE FLYING HORSEMAN, 1926, and BLACK JACK, 1927, w. Buck Jones; and THE BRONCHO TWISTER w. Tom Mix, 1927) and the 1929 musical short GLORIOUS VAMPS at United Artists. Back at Fox, he acted as business manager for ALWAYS GOODBYE and THE YELLOW TICKET (both 1931) and assisted producers Bernard H. Hyman on SARATOGA (1937) and John W. Considine, Jr., on THE VOICE OF BUGLE ANN (1936) and MEN OF BOYS TOWN (1941) at MGM.
At MGM, his producer credits include VACATION FROM LOVE (1938), YOUNG TOM EDISON and EDISON, THE MAN (both 1940), WHEN LADIES MEET (1941), WE WERE DANCING and TISH (both 1942), STAND BY FOR ACTION and THE MAN FROM DOWN UNDER (both 1943), RATIONING and BARBARY COAST GENT (both 1944), LITTLE MISTER JIM and BAD BASCOMB (both 1946) and THE SECRET LAND (1948).
