The Sheepman (1958)
Born in Illinois, USA. Started out as a Chicago newspaperman in the 1920s. A popular pulp novelist, he settled in Hollywood in the mid-1930s and contributed original stories and screenplays to many action films, including several vehicles that starred his good friend John Wayne. He also produced one of his scripts THE GREAT JOHN L. (1945), and directed two of them, ANGEL AND THE BADMAN (1947) and RING OF FEAR (1954). Other notable screenplays, alone or in collaboration, include BOOM TOWN (1940), SANDS OF IWO JIMA (1949), BIG JIM McLAIN (1952), HONDO (1953), THE ALAMO (1960), THE COMANCHEROS (1961), DONOVAN'S REEF and McCLINTOCK! (both 1963).
