Born Benjamin B. Kahane in Chicago, IL. Producer who entered American film uncredited on LOVE ON A BET (1936) at RKO. Other producing credits include THERE'S THAT WOMAN AGAIN and THOSE HIGH GREY WALLS (both 1939), THE LADY IN QUESTION (1940) and HER FIRST BEAU (1941), all at Columbia. President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from June, 1959, until his death in September, 1960.  Honorary Award 1957: For distinguished service to the motion picture industry.
