Cinematographer and special/visual effects photographer who entered American film as a process photographer at Paramount for DR. CYCLOPS (1940). He worked as a process photographer on WAKE ISLAND (1942, aerial photography), THE STORY OF DR. WASSELL (1944), INCENDIARY BLONDE and THE STORK CLUB (both 1945), UNCONQUERED (1947) and SAMSON AND DELILAH (1949). Then, in 1952, he added second unit photography to his credits with such films as THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952), RED MOUNTAIN (1953), JIVARO, ELEPHANT WALK and LIVING IT UP (all 1954), THE BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI and TO CATCH A THIEF (both 1955), PARDNERS, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS and HOLLYWOOD OR BUST (all 1956), BEAU JAMES (1957), HOUSEBOAT, VERTIGO and THE BUCCANEER (all 1958), THE TRAP, ALIAS JESSE JAMES, THE FIVE PENNIES and BUT NOT FOR ME (all 1959), ONE-EYED JACKS and BLUE HAWAII (both 1961) and MAROONED (1969). His credits as director of photography include 15 Jerry Lewis movies at Paramount, including THE LADIES' MAN and THE ERRAND BOY (both 1961), THE NUTTY PROFESSOR and WHO'S MINDING THE STORE? (both 1963), THE DISORDERLY ORDERLY and THE PATSY (both 1964) and THE BIG MOUTH (1967). |
