Born in Perth, Western Australia, Australia; schooled in Germany. Entering British film as an uncredited assistant camera on Alexander Korda's THE PRIVATE LIFE OF DON JUAN (1934), he worked as a camera operator during the 1930s for such films as THINGS TO COME and REMBRANDT (both 1936), THE THIEF OF BAGDAD (1940) and ONE OF OUR AIRCRAFT IS MISSING (1942). He became an accomplished cinematographer who collaborated several times with Carol Reed (ODD MAN OUT, 1947; TRAPEZE, 1956; and THE RUNNING MAN, 1963) and is best known for the director's shadow-ridden masterpiece, THE THIRD MAN (1949). Some of Krasker's other notable director of photography credits include HENRY V (1944), BRIEF ENCOUNTER and CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA (both 1945), CRY, THE BELOVED COUNTRY (1951), ROMEO AND JULIET (1954), THE QUIET AMERICAN (1958), LIBEL (1959), ROMANOFF AND JULIET and EL CID (both 1961), BILLY BUDD (1962), THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (1964), THE COLLECTOR and THE HEROES OF TELEMARK (both 1965), THE TRAP (1966) and his last film, CRY WOLF (1980).
