Born in Philadelphia, PA. Prolific songwriter and musical director who entered American film with songs for PICK A STAR (1937). He wrote songs for many Monogram and other Westerns from the late 1930s until 1950. He was musical director for many films from 1939 until 1944. Some of his popular song titles include "Blue Shadows on the Trail," "Clancy Lowered the Boom", "(Gimme Dat) Old Time Religion", "Deacon Jones," "Uncle Remus Said," and the Academy Award-nominated "Mule Train."
