Son of writer Herman J. Mankiewicz. Having worked as a writer in television, Mankiewicz entered American film with the adaptation to the screen of FAST COMPANY (1953). Other notable credits (alone or in collaboration) include TRIAL (1955, novel), HOUSE OF NUMBERS (1957), I WANT TO LIVE! (1958), THE CHAPMAN REPORT (1962), THE BLACK BIRD (1975).
