Cyril J. Mockridge
(1896 - 1979)

Born in London, England; educated at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Composer and music director who entered American film as an uncredited composer for MY WEAKNESS (1933) at Fox. He continued to work uncredited until 1939, when he received credit for his score for THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. Other film composing credits in his list of over 100 films include THE GREAT PROFILE (1940), DRESSED TO KILL (1941), MOONTIDE (1942), THE OX-BOW INCIDENT (1943), THE SULLIVANS (1944), CAPTAIN EDDIE (1945), CLUNY BROWN and MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (both 1946), MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (1947), GREEN GRASS OF WYOMING and ROAD HOUSE (both 1948), COME TO THE STABLE and I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE (both 1949), CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN (1950), THE FROGMEN (1951), BELLES ON THEIR TOES (1952), HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE (1953, incidental music), RIVER OF NO RETURN (1954), HOW TO BE VERY POPULAR (1955), THE SOLID GOLD CADILLAC and BUS STOP (both 1956), DESK SET and WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER? (both 1957), RALLY 'ROUND THE FLAG, BOYS! (1959), WAKE ME WHEN IT'S OVER (1960), ALL HANDS ON DECK (1961), THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (1962) and his last film, DONOVAN'S REEF (1963). Beginning in 1959, he also composed music for several US television series.
