Jim Morahan

Saraband for Dead Lovers (1948) Born in London, England. Art director in the UK whose first listed credit is a US production: GHOST TOWN (1936). Other notable credits include Charles Crichton's PAINTED BOATS (1945), and many Ealing Sudios productions for Crichton, Basil Deaden, Alexander Mackendrick and others: THE CAPTIVE HEART (1946, asst. art director), FRIEDA (1947),SARABAND FOR DEAD LOVERS, TRAIN OF EVENTS and WHISKEY GALORE! (all 1949), THE BLUE LAMP, CAGE OF GOLD and THE MAGNET (all 1950), POOL OF LONDON and THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT (both 1951), HIS EXCELLENCY, MANDY and THE GENTLE GUNMAN (all 1952), THE CRUEL SEA and THE SQUARE RING (both 1953), THE MAGGIE, WEST OF ZANZIBAR and LEASE OF LIFE (all 1954), OUT OF THE CLOUDS, THE NIGHT MY NUMBER CAME UP and THE LADYKILLERS (all 1955), WHO DONE IT? (1956), THE MAN IN THE SKY and THE SHIRALEE (both 1957) and DUNKIRK (1958). When Ealing ceased production, Morahan began working for other studios. These subsequent credits include SUMMER OF THE SEVENTEENTH DOLL (1959), THE LONG AND THE SHORT AND THE TALL and THE CHALLENGE (both 1960), MARY HAD A LITTLE (1961), A PRIZE OF ARMS (1962), THE MIND BENDERS (1963), DUTCHMAN (1966), BATTLE BENEATH THE EARTH (1967) and his last film as art director, MATTHEW HOPKINS: WITCHFINDER GENERAL (1968, a.k.a. "The Conqueror Worm" -- US). He was associate art director for Leo McCarey's SATAN NEVER SLEEPS (1962) and assistant art director for SUPERGIRL (1984).
