Born in Brooklyn, NY. Beginning piano lessons at age five and composing by age eight, Moross was, in 1924, the youngest child ever to graduate from a New York City Public School up to that time. He graduated from New York University School of Music at eighteen and as a senior there concurrently held a Juilliard conducting fellowship. Moross was awarded Guggenheim Fellowships in 1947 and 1948. An extensive review of his life and career appears at the official Jerome Moross web site.

As a composer, orchestrator, musical director and arranger, he entered American film as an uncredited orchestrator for Sam Wood's OUR TOWN (1940). Other orchestrator credits (mostly uncredited) include THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT (also 1940), ACTION IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC and THE NORTH STAR (both 1943), SINCE YOU WENT AWAY (1944), THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946), THE BISHOP'S WIFE (1947), JOAN OF ARC (1948), ROSEANNA McCOY (1949) and HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN (1952).

Moross' screen composing credits include CLOSE-UP (1948), WHEN I GROW UP (1951), CAPTIVE CITY (1952), SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD and SHARKFIGHTERS (both 1956), THE PROUD REBEL and THE BIG COUNTRY (both 1958), THE JAYHAWKERS! (1959), THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (1960, composer & conductor), FIVE FINGER EXERCISE (1962), THE CARDINAL (1963), THE WAR LORD (1965), RACHEL, RACHEL (1968, composer & musical director), THE VALLEY OF GWANGI and HAIL, HERO! (both 1969). He also composed music for the TV series "Gunsmoke," "Have Gun - Will Travel," "Wagon Train" and "Lancer."
