I Remember Mama (1948)
Born in Italy. He began his association with films in 1918 as J. Stuart Blackton's chauffeur and later performed a variety of duties at Vitagraph before becoming a cinematographer in the early 1920s. He worked behind the camera on numerous silent and early sound Westerns and low-budget action pictures before developing in the late 30s into one of RKO's prime cameramen, working as director of photography on films like PACIFIC LINER (1938), GOLDEN BOY (1939), CAT PEOPLE (1942), SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON (1940), THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE (1946) and THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER (1947). He remained with that studio until 1954, when he began freelancing. He later worked mostly for TV.
