The Bullfighter and the Lady (1951) Born in Boston, MA. Long with Columbia, he began as an assistant director in 1935 on ROARING ROADS. Other a.d. credits include IN OLD MONTANA (1939), IS EVERYBODY HAPPY? (1943), STARS ON PARADE (1944) and OVER 21 and EADIE WAS A LADY (both 1945). He directed many of the studio's low-budget Charles Starrett/Smiley Burnette Westerns and action pictures in the late 1940s and 50s (e.g. TWO-FISTED STRANGER, 1946; WEST OF DODGE CITY, 1947; SINGIN' SPURS, 1948; LARAMIE, 1949; DAVID HARDING, COUNTERSPY, 1950; FORT SAVAGE RAIDERS, 1951; MONTANA TERRITORY, 1952; GUN BELT, 1953; THE LONE GUN, 1954; TOP GUN, 1955; THE WHITE SQUAW, 1956; THE HIRED GUN, 1957; and APACHE TERRITORY, 1958). Also worked in European films and in American TV, writing and producing the 1955 series "Fury."
