Cromwell (1970) Born in Rome, Italy. Costume designer, writer and art director who entered Italian film as costume desinger for 1860 (1934). There is a break in his credits until the early 1940s. His costume design credits include ROSSINI (1941, also writer & prod. designer), TOTÓ NELLA FOSSA DEI LEONI (1943), LE MISERIE DEL SIGNOR TRAVET (1945), PAGLIACCI (1947), BLACK MAGIC and PRINCE OF FOXES (both 1949), SHADOW OF THE EAGLE (1950), MESSALINA (1951, also writer & art director), LA REGINA DE SABA (1952, "The Queen of Sheba" - also writer), TRADITA (1954, also writer), LA DONNA PIÙ BELLA DEL MONDO (1955, "Beautiful But Dangerous"), NEL SEGNO DI ROMA (1959, "Sign of the Gladiator"), THE STORY OF RUTH (1960), FRANCIS OF ASSISI (1961), CLEOPATRA (1963, men's costumes), THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD, THE WAR LORD and THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY (all 1965), THE KING'S PIRATE (1967), CROMWELL (1970), ZACHARIAH (1971), BLAZING SADDLES (special costumes) and THE TERMINAL MAN (both 1974) and the TV productions of "Masada" and "Peter and Paul" (both 1981).

The 1957 film WILD IS THE WIND was taken from Novarese's novel Furia. And, he was a historical and technical advisor for SPARTACUS (1960).
