Born in Kirksville, MO. Acclaimed method actress whose rich performances on stage and screen displayed an unparalleled repertoire of neurotic tics and mannerisms. Page's highly strung, eccentric persona was put to fine use in films such as Richard Brooks's adaptation of Tennessee Williams's SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH (1962) and the tender, atmospheric drama, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL (1985). Other notable film credits include her screen debut TAXI (1953), HONDO (also 1953), SUMMER AND SMOKE (1961) and SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH (1962) -- (No other actoress has received three Oscar nominations in her first four screen appearances.) -- TOYS IN THE ATTIC (1963), DEAR HEART (1964), YOU'RE A BIG BOY NOW (1966), THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE (1967), WHATEVER HAPPENED TO AUNT ALICE? and Truman Capote's TRILOGY (both 1969), THE BEGUILED (1971), J.W. COOP and PETE 'N' TILLIE (both 1972), THE DAY OF THE LOCUST (1975), NASTY HABITS (1977), INTERIORS (1978), HONKY TONK FREEWAY and HARRY'S WAR (both 1981), I'M DANCING AS FAST AS I CAN (1982), THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE (1984), THE BRIDE, WHITE NIGHTS and THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL (all 1985), and NATIVE SON and MY LITTLE GIRL (both 1986).

Married from 1961 to actor Rip Torn, opposite whom she frequently performed on stage. From 1951 until 1985, she appeared frequently on television and in made-for-TV movies.
