Born in New York City. Entered American film as a collaborator on the screenplay for THANKS FOR LISTENING (1937) at Conn Pictures Corp. He worked on several John Wayne and Gene Autry Westerns at Republic through the rest of the 1930s, then wrote stories and screenplays for such features as the Ritz Brothers' NEVER A DULL MOMENT (1943) and UNDER WESTERN SKIES (1945) (both at Universal), SONG OF THE THIN MAN (1947 at MGM), LOUISA (1950, U-I), DEATH OF A SALESMAN (1951, Columbia), THE STORY OF WILL ROGERS (1952, Warner Bros.), EVERYTHING BUT THE TRUTH (1956, U-I) and COME SEPTEMBER (1961, also U-I). His last feature film was MADE IN PARIS (1966) for MGM. In the late 1950s, Roberts began writing for television. Some of those series credits include "Bonanza," "Mannix," "Banacek," "Petrocelli," "Police Woman" and "Hart to Hart."
