Born in Chicago, IL. One of Hollywood's most accomplished wardrobe fashioners with almost 140 feature film costume credits, usually designing women's costumes and gowns. Working from age 15, she designed for night clubs and the Ice Follies for many years before entering films in the early 40s, briefly with 20th Century-Fox, then for three decades with MGM. She was nominated for Acadamy Awards 10 times and won Oscars for THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL (1952) and I'LL CRY TOMORROW (1955). Her fame as the designer of Grace Kelly's wedding gown in 1956 helped her establish a thriving fashion business when she retired from films in 1968.
