Sunset Blvd. (1950) Film editor who entered American film with FINISHING SCHOOL (1934) at RKO Radio. Other notable unnominated editing credits include ALOMA OF THE SOUTH SEAS (1941), A MEDAL FOR BENNY (1945), THE BLUE DAHLIA and MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE (both 1946), THE PERILS OF PAULINE (1947), SORROWFUL JONES (1949), WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE (1951), SABRINA (1954), WE'RE NO ANGELS (1955), THE SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS (1957), THE NAKED AND THE DEAD and THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA (both 1958), SOME LIKE IT HOT and LI'L ABNER (both 1959), CINDERFELLA (1960) and his last film, IT'S ONLY MONEY (1962).

His son, Arthur Schmidt, is an Academy Award-winning film editor.
